Cat Dentistry
Prior to the scheduled procedure, your cat will need to have labwork performed in order to check organ function (liver, kidneys, etc) and look at red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This will help the anesthesia team determine the best anesthetic protocol for your pet, and help detect any abnormalities prior to anesthesia.

Yes, Our pets are unable to stay completely still when obtaining imaging (or approached with sharp dental instruments), so administering medication that removes the risk of sudden movements is necessary. We also need to be able to secure the patient’s airway to safely use water in the mouth, which is only possible through general anesthesia. We take anesthesia very seriously here; your pet will be monitored continuously throughout the procedure as well as during induction and recovery.
All patients go home the same day. The time of discharge will be determined by where your pet lies in the surgery schedule order, the length of the surgery itself, and how quickly your pet recovers. Since the details above can be somewhat unpredictable, we recommend that you schedule your pet’s surgery on a day when you have flexibility.
We do! Trupanion Pet Insurance will compensate us directly; all other insurance companies will reimburse the policy holder after a completed procedure. Coverage varies widely between insurance companies and policies, so we recommend confirming your pet’s level of coverage through your insurance company prior to your appointment.
We recommend products that are VOHC certified, which are listed on the VOHC website. And remember: when choosing a chew toy for your pet, try to avoid anything that you can’t indent with your fingernail or wouldn’t want hit against your knee.
While we do not offer traditional financing, we do accept payment through the medical credit card Care Credit. More information on Care Credit (as well as general payment information) can be found on our payments page:
The “dental cleaning” is only part of the VDOSO experience; every surgical procedure here begins with a comprehensive oral and radiographic evaluation by a board-certified veterinary dentist (which includes 3D imaging with a Cone-Beam CT, full mouth dental radiographs, and an oral cancer screening), followed by periodontal therapy (which would fall under the “cleaning” portion of the procedure) and any necessary oral surgery/specialty treatments. Because dentistry in pets requires general anesthesia, VDOSO minimizes risk through tailored anesthetic plans (based on breed, age, and health condition), and constant monitoring by multiple registered veterinary technicians before, during, and after each procedure. Each estimate we give reflects the value of the details above and will usually fall somewhere between twenty-five hundred and sixty-five hundred dollars. If no oral surgery or specialty treatments are needed, then the cost will likely be on the lower end of that range. Long, complicated surgeries, or surgeries on large dogs, may be on the higher end.

Posted on Google Missy MetcalfJuly 4, 2026 Very happy with the work that was preformed on my Golden. Great service and even better people!Posted on Google Ronda ShamanskyJune 7, 2026 Dr. Berning and her staff were all top-notch from start to finish. Our 17-year old cat had a complicated dental issue that had not been handled correctly by a different doctor in a prior dental procedure, and as a result, he was having ongoing pain in his mouth. Dr. Berning resolved the problem in one procedure, and now the cat is pain free and living out his golden kitty years.Posted on Google Rick WolfJune 2, 2026 I think this is where Minion of narrow way homestead got his teef fixed, and Nate was very satisfied.Posted on Google Michelle VictoriaMay 22, 2026 Updated review! We had the pleasure of bringing our second dog, Mochi, into this impeccable team for his teeth, cleaning this past April. I was unsure if he would need any extractions or additional procedures, but went in hopeful and trust them with our lives. Everyone, as expected, was above and beyond professional, compassionate, patient, and caring. I genuinely cannot say enough positive things about the staff and production going on here. Everyone is an absolute star in their field. Mochi ended up, not needing any extractions or additional procedures, which we couldn’t believe. He has Cushing’s disease which added a lot of stress and anxiety to my mind during the anesthesia – but of course, I was reassured the entire time, and everyone took the upmost care of him. When he woke up, he was his normal self, and recovered perfectly. We even brought our other dog Kiwi for support and he waited with us in their comfortable and clean waiting room. We drive from Cleveland to Columbus and will always make the trip in order to see Dr Braunegg and her staff of angels. Thank you so much again. We owe you everything. There is not an opportunity that goes by that I don’t take to share what an incredible facility they have here! Thank you so much again. 100/10 stars. I am FOREVER grateful to these women. We traveled 2 hours from Cleveland for a flawless procedure at VD&OS. I struggle with severe, catastrophic anxiety related to my dogs and was extremely nervous about my 8 year old Newfypoo, Kiwi, needing to undergo anesthesia for a gingevectomy & teeth cleaning per recommendation by our primary vet. The months leading up to our appointment were a mental and emotional nightmare for me. He has had elevated SDMA levels which are now stabilized but I had never been so anxious about something in my life. He is my absolute everything. It is very difficult for me to let go of control and trust that everything will be okay - the team here gave me the belief & trust I have been missing. From the moment I made the appointment, everyone I spoke to went above and beyond to keep the situation light but professional (which was beyond effective at easing the stress and anxiety). No one made me feel silly for how I felt, instead, they were patient, compassionate, professional, and understanding. I seriously cannot recommend this team and Dr. Berning enough. Everyone I met explained every single part from start to finish seamlessly and articulately and I love that the staff is all women -they were just so naturally comforting, calm, and kind. My boy ended up needing 3 extractions in addition to his other procedures and I can already tell he feels so much better. The staff gave me several updates as I waited in their incredibly clean and spacious waiting rooms. It brings tears to my eyes recalling how special they treated him. The fact that I knew an actual team of remote anesthesiologists created Kiwi’s plan and were closely monitoring him as well as the in person staff made world of difference. It is our second day of recovery and he was eating that evening, drinking, peeing, and pooping the following morning. This establishment is truly a safe haven full of angels. I would pay absolutely anything for my boys and this team made me regain hope in others. I cannot thank you all enough. Dr. Berning, you are a saint. What you have created is so direly needed and appreciated. I cannot recommended them enough and will always always always come here for all teeth related needs. Kiwi’s teeth look MARVELOUS. We cannot thank you all enough !!!!! * we stayed overnight the day before at an air bnb we typically travel and had a beautiful night but the staff had plenty of recommendations for out of towners!Posted on Google Jennifer MillerMay 19, 2026 I was apprehensive about bringing my dog in for dental work because she’s a high-risk patient, but the entire team put my mind at ease every step of the way. From the very first phone call, to the consultation, to the thoughtful aftercare, I felt genuinely supported and cared for. One thing that meant so much to me was being able to stay with my dog before her procedure. It helped calm my nerves, and I know it made my girl feel safe and comforted too. The compassion, patience, and professionalism shown by everyone there truly made a difficult experience so much easier. It’s clear that they care deeply not only for their patients, but for the people who love them. I’m beyond grateful for the kindness and care they showed both me and my sweet girl.Posted on Google Kayli HowardMay 14, 2026 Exceptional specialty care! I drove 3 hours for my puppy to have some complicated dental work and it was well worth the drive to know that my baby was in excellent hands and received top of the line medical care from a board certified veterinarian and her team! Dr. Berning along with every single technician, assistant, and CSR were so welcoming, sweet, and personable. Everything was explained in great detail every step of the way from the first phone call of scheduling to the final discharge from surgery. The office is extremely organized, efficient, and well managed (probably because it’s run by all women! 😉) If your pet needs any dental or oral surgery, look no further!Posted on Google Christine IMay 6, 2026 Very friendly and communicative!! Clearly care about animals a lot.Posted on Google Sandy WardApril 30, 2026 This office was just amazing. Kind, considerate and knowledgeable! Our kitten had an unusual (for our regular veterinarian office), problem that needed addressed. The entire staff took amazing care of every detail of our appointment. We will definitely recommend them to anyone with animal dental issues! Thank you to all!!!Posted on Google Ken ElrichApril 28, 2026 Our primary veterinarian recommended Ohio Veterinary Dental Service after we discovered that Baby, our 3-year-old working Great Pyrenees, had broken one of her canine teeth. From the first conversation through the procedure and follow-up, the team was excellent. They took the time to explain what had happened, reviewed the available treatment options with us, and helped us understand why a root canal was a good choice instead of simply extracting the tooth. They clearly explained the procedure, including removing the damaged/infected pulp from inside the tooth, cleaning and sealing the canal, and preserving the structure and function of the canine tooth. Their communication was outstanding. They were patient, thorough, and never made us feel rushed while we asked questions and considered the best option for her. The procedure went very well, and they did a great job caring for her. We are very thankful for the professionalism, skill, and compassion they showed. I would highly recommend Ohio Veterinary Dental Service to anyone needing specialized dental care for their pet.Posted on Google Lois ElrichApril 27, 2026 We had an outstanding experience with Veterinary Dentistry and Oral Surgery and would highly recommend them to anyone needing specialized care for their pet. From the very beginning, the consultation was thorough and reassuring. They took the time to clearly explain what to expect, answered all of our questions, and made sure we felt confident moving forward. Our Great Pyrenees, Baby, received excellent care, and it was evident that the entire team is both highly knowledgeable and genuinely compassionate. After the procedure, we were given clear, easy-to-follow aftercare instructions, which will make the recovery process much smoother. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly, professional, and truly cared about Baby’s well-being. I highly recommend them and am so grateful for the exceptional care they provided. Five stars all the way!
