Prosthodontics & Restorative Dentistry
When dogs and cats fracture their teeth we often treat these teeth with endodontic therapy. While not all root canals require crown placement, a crown is placed in certain instances based on the tooth being treated and the tasks the pet must be able to complete. Most working dogs will have crowns placed on teeth treated endodontically. Big chewing teeth, known as carnassial teeth, are often treated with crown placement after root canal therapy. Crown placement does require a second anesthetic event, as the crown prep and impressions happen at the first visit and once the dental lab makes the crown it is placed on the tooth under general anesthesia a week or two later.

Benefits of Prosthodontics & Restorative Dentistry
Restorative dentistry in pets is similar to fillings in people. While we can treat cavities in our animal patients, cavities occur less commonly in pets than in people. More often we are treating other enamel defects with dentin bonding and composite restorations.
