Brent Aona
Dr. Aona attended The Ohio State University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences. He remained in Columbus where he earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Aona then completed a rotating internship in small animal medicine and surgery at Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University and a three-year cardiology residency at North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Aona has a special interest in congenital heart disease and interventional cardiology. When not caring for his patients, Dr. Aona enjoys spending time camping with his family and dogs.
Jamie Berning
Dr. Jamie Berning is a 2011 graduate from The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine. She worked as a general practitioner for the first few years of her career before focusing on dentistry. Dr. Berning completed her dental residency in southeast Michigan and moved back to Columbus in 2017. She had a mobile dental practice from 2017 until January 2021 when she opened a stand-alone specialty clinic, Veterinary Dentistry & Oral Surgery of Ohio.
She is passionate about all aspects of dentistry and particularly enjoys endodontics, oral surgery, comparative dentistry, and diagnostic imaging using cone-beam CT. Dr. Berning enjoys teaching veterinarians, students, technicians, and staff and serves as a consultant for multiple zoological institutions.
Outside of her professional life Dr. Berning enjoys spending time with her daughter and their miniature poodle.
Gianluca Bini
DVM MRCVS DACVAA
Dr. Gianluca Bini graduated from the University of Perugia, Italy. He then moved to the United Kingdom, where he completed two internships, one in anesthesia and one rotating, at Dick White Referrals, one of the largest referral centers in Europe. After completing his residency at North Carolina State University, he worked as an Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology and Pain Management at The Ohio State University.
After realizing how limited the access to a board certified anesthesiologist was, he decided to found Safe Pet Anesthesia.
Due to his passion for teaching and devotion to spreading safe anesthetic practices, he speaks at many national and international conferences while also working as an anesthesiology and pain management faculty at Oklahoma State University.
Matt Lemmons
Dr. Lemmons is a 2003 graduate of Purdue University’s School of Veterinary Medicine. He worked in general practice before beginning his residency in Dentistry and Oral Surgery at the University of Wisconsin. He completed his residency in 2007 and achieved board certification with the American Veterinary Dental College in 2008. He practices dentistry and oral surgery at MedVet and has been a consultant for the Veterinary Information Network since 2006. He has been a visiting instructor at the Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine since 2017.
He has authored chapters in Blackwell’s Five-Minute Veterinary Consult Clinical Companion: Small Animal Dentistry, the Veterinary Clinics of North America, Wigg’s Veterinary Dentistry and Veterinary Dentistry, A Team Approach fourth edition. He has completed the Thomas P. Sollecito One Health Fellowship, a program focusing on oral medicine in both the human and veterinary model.
His areas of interest are maxillofacial trauma repair and oral oncologic surgery. Outside of the profession, he enjoys working on his hobby farm with his wife, Laura and practicing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
Patrick Odenweller
Dr. Patrick Odenweller is a 2009 graduate of Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine. He completed a dental residency in 2016. He is proud to be the only Board Certified Veterinary Dentist in the state of Kentucky, serving his home state and surrounding areas.
Denise Rollings
AAS, CVT, VTS (Dentistry)
Denise is a Veterinary Technician Specialist (VTS) in Dentistry with over a decade of dental specialty clinical experience, dedicated to advancing oral health care for animals. She earned her Associate of Applied Science in Veterinary Technology with honors from Madison Area Technical College in 2001 and achieved her VTS credential through the Academy of Veterinary Dental Technicians (AVDT) in 2014.
In 2017, Denise founded Pet Dental Education, LLC, providing on-site training and education to veterinary hospitals across the country with the goal of raising the standard of dental care for animals. Over the course of her career, she has taught and assisted in hundreds of lectures and wet labs and has served as a dental educator for multiple organizations. She currently serves as Key Account Manager at iM3, Inc. — The Global Name in Veterinary Dentistry — supporting veterinary teams through training, program development, and customer success initiatives.
Denise’s contributions to the profession have been widely recognized. She served as a Director at Large on the AVDT Board, received the AVDT “Rising in Dentistry Leadership” Award in 2020, and was honored as the Viticus Group “2024 Veterinary Technician Speaker of the Year.”
Emily Ward
Dr. Emily Ward earned her Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from Texas A&M University in 2011. Following veterinary school, Dr. Ward completed her residency in Dentistry & Oral Surgery at Eastside Veterinary Dentistry in Woodinville, WA in 2019 and became a Board Certified Veterinary Dentist in 2024.
Dr. Ward is passionate about all aspects of veterinary dentistry and oral surgery but maintains a special interest in advanced periodontal therapy techniques and sighthound and geriatric dentistry. She enjoys working in a large, multi-specialty practice with a collaborative environment at MedVet Cincinnati.
When not caring for patients, Dr. Ward enjoys listening to audiobooks, playing New York Times word puzzles, gaming with her brother, and spending time with her two children, Sloane and Julian.
Kristen Ward
Kristen Ward, RN-BSN, RVT, Veterinary Technician Specialist (Anesthesia & Analgesia)
Kristen Ward graduated in Veterinary Medical Technology from Central Carolina Community College and spent 14 years working as a Registered Veterinary Technician. Six of those years were dedicated to the Anesthesia Service at North Carolina State University, where she earned her Veterinary Technician Specialty in Anesthesia and Analgesia. After relocating to Ohio, she completed a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Capital University.
Kristen recently transitioned out of her role in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit to focus on building Safe Pet Anesthesia, where she serves as Co-founder and Chief Operating Officer (COO). She brings a unique dual perspective from both veterinary and human healthcare, elevating the standards of veterinary anesthesia through expertise, precision, and passion. Kristen also provides high-quality continuing education at a national level.
In her free time, she enjoys training and spending time with her Golden Retrievers.
